I hope you are all having a wonderful summer. The 101st Supreme Session held in Niagara Falls, NY, was attended by several of our members. Thank you to all the Past Queens, Line Officers, Delegates, Dancers & Pageantry members, Patrol members and Ladies of the Household who attended with me. My special thanks go to my escorts and banner bearers from the Dancers & Pageantry, our designated unit, and the Patrol. And I cherish the lovely gifts, laughs, presentations and “pranks.”
The week was very busy with new legislation, election of Supreme Officers, fun and moving unit performances, new friendships and reconnecting with friends from near and far. There was a total of 1,112 voting delegates present this year. Karen Keuther was installed as Supreme Queen – arriving on a “boat” as the legendary “Maid of the Mist.” Also installed were Supreme Princess Royal Shirley Henley from Cincinnati, OH, Supreme Princess Tirzah Dale Obernolte from Fresno, CA, and Supreme Princess Badoura Heather Krastins Lambert from Minneapolis, MN.
I was incredibly honored to represent Isis Temple No. 41 in Niagara Falls. How wonderful it was to see our outstanding units perform and to be present to accept numerous accolades for our efforts throughout last year. The Dancers & Pageantry performed an “angelic” new routine with perfection. I can’t wait for the rest of our members to get to see it at our next Ceremonial. The Patrol didn’t miss a step in their fun marching routine, and they also participated in honor guards and marched in the mass patrol formations during opening and closing sessions.
Daughters of the Nile temples collectively contributed nearly $3 million to the Shriners Hospitals for Children last year. Isis Temple gave roughly $16,000 to the Daughters of the Nile Foundation last year, which once again earned us a spot in the “Foundation Club,” which recognizes temples who contributed more than $10,000 during the year. Junior Past Queen Jennifer Nance and I had the honor of attending a private reception with snacks and champagne, where we were presented with a new plaque and had our photo taken with Imperial Potentate Chris Smith. Great effort, ladies! The new plaque will be placed in the display case on the second floor at Hadi alongside the one we received last year as a founding member of the Foundation Club. Let us keep up the momentum for 2017! What a joy it would be to continue to find ourselves among the major donors each year! In all, 28 temples were recognized by the Foundation with our collective donations totaling $483,076.29.
In addition to the recognition we received for our monetary donations, I was so proud to get to accept awards for Isis Temple’s membership efforts last year. Isis Temple is currently the third largest temple in North America. During JPQ Jennifer’s reign, we initiated 14 new Princesses and had a net gain in membership of 3. Last year was the first year since 2002 we have seen growth in our membership numbers. It is my goal to continue that trend this year. If we each just proposed ONE lady for membership, it would have a massive positive impact on our temple.
We have a wonderful fraternal organization and do so much great work for the patients at Shriners Hospitals for Children. Who will you choose to share the Nile experience with? Remember, any lady proposed at the September Stated Session will be voted on in October and able to join during the Supreme Queen Visit and Ceremonial at the end of that month. Please bring a signed proposal for membership with you to the September Stated Session. I will hold a drawing for a door prize that evening. In order to be eligible for the drawing, all you have to do is be one of the two signers of a proposal submitted that evening!
Special congratulations to Past Supreme Queen Sue Layman on again being appointed Chair of the Supreme Temple Finance Committee and on her new appointment to the Supreme Publications Committee. We are also honored to have five Supreme Appointees: Membership Committee and Public Relations – Nancy Markham, PQ; Supreme Goodwill Ambassador to the Central Area – Marian Trapp, PQ; Supreme Temple American Flag Escort – Sharon Norvell, PQ; Supreme Temple Canadian Flag Escort – Jennifer Emsweller, PQ; and Supreme Temple Banner Escort – Jan Akers-Du
Bois, PQ. Congratulations, ladies!
The 2018 Supreme Session will be held in Cincinnati, OH, June 24-28, 2018. As we now are allowed five Lady of the Household delegates – and as next year’s Supreme Session is such an easy distance to travel – I strongly encourage you to submit your name for consideration next year to represent Isis Temple as a delegate. I cannot describe how exciting and educational it is to attend a Supreme Session. The first one I attended was in 2009 when my mother, Sharon Norvell, was Queen. What an awesome week! I was completely hooked after that and have not missed one since! If you have any questions on how to submit your request for consideration, please contact Princess Recorder Joyce Giolitto.
We have a busy summer already underway. Our Nile Family Picnic will be Sunday, July 16, at 1 p.m. Many thanks to the Isis Temple Patrol for helping organize this family event. This year the picnic will be held at Audubon State Park in Henderson, KY. Fried chicken and drinks will be provided. Please bring a covered dish or dessert. Family members and friends are welcome – especially prospective members! Some of our guests at last year’s picnic became Princesses themselves in the months that followed. Showing the women in our lives how much friendship there is to be found in Nile can often be the strongest enticement to membership.
Our 4-H Fundraiser will be taking place July 24-29, 2017. PQ Karla Goff has a few time slots left to fill. Please contact her if you’re available to help. If you’ve never worked this fundraiser, you’re missing out on a great time.
We will hold a Ceremony of Initiation on Monday, August 7, at 6:30 p.m. at Hadi Temple, second floor. I would love to see as many of you as are able to attend and welcome our new Princesses. Unit performances and a small reception will follow.
- Officer Practice: Monday, July 31, at 6:30 p.m.
- Unit and Officer Practice: Thursday, August 3, starting at 5:30 p.m. Units have 15 minutes each to practice.
- Officers begin at 6:30 p.m.
Our annual BBQ sale returns in August. Contact PQ Penny McDonald or any Ways & Means committee member for tickets. The deadline for orders is August 10, and pickup will be August 19 in the Hadi parking lot. Please share with your friends, co-workers, neighbors and families!
The next Stated Session will be Tuesday, September 5, at 7 p.m., due to the Labor Day holiday. We will honor our Past Queens and any 50-year members with a reception following Session. Past Queens, I encourage you to attend and bring your memory book to share with our members. I love seeing the history of our temple and sharing stories of
wonderful members. We will hold an Officer practice on Thursday, August 31, at 6:30 p.m. for this Stated Session.
The next Princeton Nile Club meeting will be held at Noon on September 12 at R’Z Café in Ft. Branch. Please contact Pr. Royal Robbi Redman if you would like to carpool. The carpool meets at 11:45 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Airport on Hwy. 41. Later that week we will have a Nile 101 session at 6:30 p.m. on September 14 on the second floor of Hadi Shrine. This informative session will offer our newest members the opportunity to learn everything they need to know to be a Princess. This class can be a benefit to our tenured members as well! So whether you’ve been in Nile a few months or a few decades, you are welcome to join us to learn and maybe even share your own wisdom and experiences.
I’m looking forward to seeing many of you throughout this summer and the coming fall at as many events as your time and other duties will permit. We have much to offer as an organization. With the variety of activities on the calendar this year, there is sure to be something of interest for everyone!
Nile love and pixie dust,
Krista Williams, Queen
