We blink and it’s July.  Time is going by so quickly.  This newsletter is going to be jam backed with a lot of information.
I hope all of you are well and enjoying the summer months.
As you know many of us attended the 110th Annual Supreme Session in Victoria, British Columbia.  If you ever get a chance to travel there, it is well worth it.  It is such a beautiful area, the people are friendly and a big plus, no mosquitoes or humidity.
Our Session days were busy and packed with activity.  We had 23 amendments with previous notice brought forward with 22 being resolved.  I’ve attached the amendments for easy reference.  All passed except V-4, majority voted no and V-17, which is being held over until next year due to an issue with voting devices not working on Wednesday morning.
I also want to highlight V-20 which was submitted by our own JPQ Andrea Peters, with help from PQs Casey Wonders and Krista Williams, due to the success of our virtual February Stated Session. With a vote of the Temple, it allows a Queen to hold up to 2 virtual sessions during the year.
Our newly elected Supreme officers are: Kathy Rafter,PQ as Supreme Queen, Beverly Polley, PQ as Supreme Princess Recorder, Kendall Kendy” Cusick-Rindone, PQ as Supreme Princess Banker and Lynn Haller, PQ as Supreme Princess Badoura.
On the final day, our new Supreme Queen, Kathy Rafter, was installed for the ensuing year.
Sheay and I were honored to attend the Foundation luncheon to represent our Temple on behalf of JPQ Andrea Peters to receive an award for donating more than $10,000 last year, in fact we were the 2nd highest donor with just over $6900.  Our plague will be added to our display case.
The DON website has been revamped, https://daughtersofthenile.org/ , please check it out as you have time.  It is now open to the public so that others can learn about our beautiful organization.  There is a members’ only section that is password protected.  The password is celtictreasures.  The other great addition is the ability to purchase and download digital copies of our ritual and other publications.  This will be available Aug 1 through Oasis so that it’s secured to members only and uses a secure shopping and payment platform called PayHip.  The digital copies are approx 50% less than purchasing a printed copy.  The downloaded version is saved on your personal device so that it’s always at your fingertips.

PSQ Sue Layman is on the Supreme Temple Subordinate Temple Finance Review Committee, the Supreme Temple Closing Committee and Advisor for the Supreme Temple Subordinate Temple Assistance Committee.

Also Supreme Queen Kathy Rafter is continuing the Ladies of the Household recognition.  This year Debbie Russell is our Supreme Platinum Rose!
Congratulations to each of you.  We are so proud to have you represent our Temple.
 
I also want to share some information on the current state of Daughters of the Nile.
Currently we have 122 Temples with 2 in the process of closing and 13 in special status.
Last year our membership was 13,868, we initiated 684 new Princess but we lost 1478 leaving our new total at 13,074.  Despite the changes that are being made to shorten meetings, update dress code and open membership, we are still losing more than are joining.  We need your help to share our story.  Even if you’re unable to attend a Stated Session, you can still propose a new member.
 
Our total contribution Shriners Children’s this year, including Canada was $2,777,000.00.  That’s amazing.  This why we belong to this organization and why we do what we do.  This makes me very proud to be a part of Daughters of the Nile.
 
As you know, our Supreme Queen official visit was right on the heels of our return from the Supreme Session. 
Supreme Queen Kathy Rafter joined us on June 23 for a combined visit with Badoura Temple No. 23 from Terre Haute, IN.  This was a first for all of us.  But with the help and guidance from PQs Linda Trible and Tina Dobbs, several practices and a zoom practice with Badoura, we had a beautiful visit and Ceremonial.  I could not have been more proud of the officers and all the Ladies that helped make this such a success.  I appreciate everyone’s support and participation.

​​It’s amazing how fast the last 3 years have gone by and I’m doing my first newsletter as Queen of Isis Temple No. 41.
I’d like to share the part of the Installation of Officers about my journey for those that weren’t able to make it in person:
“My journey here began at work with a budding friendship with Past Queen Tina Dobbs.  As our friendship grew, Tina invited me and my husband Chris to different events for Hadi Temple and Daughters of the Nile.  As I learned more about their philanthropy and met more members of Daughters of the Nile, I decided I’d like to join this group of wonderful Ladies and help in the work they do for Shriners Children.
I became a Princess in July of 2019.  In September of that year, I joined the Patrol and had my first experience cleaning brains in preparation for the Fall Festival.  I can say it was quite something.
I knew I wanted to be more involved, being Queen was nowhere on my radar.  I was so honored when past Queen Karla Goff asked me to be her Princess Marshal. I remained Princess Marshal for another year and started thinking I’d like to try another role the following year, maybe a Lady in Waiting. Then in Dallas at our Supreme Session, a certain someone planted a seed by asking if I had thought about running for Princess Badoura.  My initial response “Oh no, I am not ready for that. That is way out of my comfort zone.”  That following March I was elected as Princess Badoura and 3 very quick years later, here we are.
My Theme this year is: “You do not just wake up and become the
butterfly. Growth is a process”.
My Motto that has been in my signature line at work for years is: “Fear not, without change, there would be no butterflies.”
My scripture: A sweet friendship refreshes the soul; Proverbs, Chapter 27, Verse 9.           
This journey is a butterfly moment for me.
Installation was such a beautiful day. I thank everyone that helped make it so special.
Our next Stated Session will be held Monday, May 4th, at 7 pm.  All annual
reports will be given at this meeting; please be sure you have them ready and are
present. We will also be having a “May the 4th be with you” celebration dinner starting at 5:30, with a special speaker to help find our “force”.  Please join us.
The 2026 Supreme Session is June 7-10 in Victoria British Columbia.  Our Supreme Queen visit will be June 23, 2026. This will be a combined visit with Badoura Temple.  We are currently working on the details and will share more information as we have it.
I am so very honored to have been elected as your Queen for the ensuing year.  I promise to do my best to fulfill my duties and responsibilities and to represent our Temple in the manner that every Queen before me has done. I know we will have an amazing year because of each of you and the continued Love and Support we give each other.

Fellow Officers and Ladies of the Household,
It is my absolute honor, privilege, and utmost responsibility to serve as Queen of Isis Temple No. 41 for the ensuing year.  It seems like only yesterday I was at the station of Princess
Badoura, completely clueless and scared out of my mind.  The encouragement from each of you has given me the strength and confidence to progress on to where I sit today.  I look forward to a Nile year full of fun and fellowship. I would like to extend my deepest thank you to everyone who participated in the Installation Ceremony on Saturday, March 22 at Hadi Temple. I enjoyed seeing everyone all dressed up and you allowing me to put my own personal touches on the decor in shades of blush & bashful. It was a day I will cherish forever with many memories I will always hold dear. Thank you again to each of you for everything.

My promise to you is to perform my duty the best I can.  I will work collaboratively with you in harmony and trust. We will have fun and good fellowship, with several new and some existing opportunities to spend time getting to know each other better. There are several fundraisers and social opportunities in the works. I ask that you watch your emails and future newsletters for details. We will work to increase our membership and fill the seats of the Temple each month. I do intend to continue with the abbreviated session in April and May with social activities
following.

I am very much looking forward to our 109th Annual Supreme Session in Las Vegas, NV this June where Supreme Princess Royal Kathy
Walliker will be installed as Supreme Queen. I am thrilled to have the Isis Temple Patrol as my
designated unit and I know it will be a great time. The Supreme Queen's Official Visit to Isis Temple is being planned for Saturday, August 23, at Hadi Temple. Watch for communications as more
details will be announced soon. I have found Supreme Princess Royal Kathy to be a lovely lady and know you will as well.

What a whirlwind this fall has been!!
On Saturday, August 23th, her Supreme Majesty Kathy Walliker visited Isis Temple for her Official Supreme Queen Visit. She was welcomed by several ladies and joined all Officers, visiting Supreme Elected Officers, Supreme Appointees & Appointed Giving Hearts for lunch at the BRU Burger Restaurant in Downtown Evansville where fun and fellowship was had by all. We then proceeded to Hadi Temple where our officers performed the most beautiful ceremonial for her, and we welcomed 3 new ladies into our organization. Ladies, we look forward to seeing you at our many upcoming events. While Supreme Queen Kathy was visiting, I had the opportunity to spend some quality time with her; she truly is a special person who holds a special love and passion for our order. To wrap up August, the line officers and I had the privilege of attending several Supreme Queen Visits around the area, and we were blessed to be joined by other Past Queens, Officers & Members of Isis Temple. These times will always hold a special place in my heart as it has been a great opportunity to see old friends and make new friends.
In September, Pr. Royal Jodi and the Membership Committee hosted a Tailgate Potluck prior to the Stated Session. The variety of food, fun and fellowship was endless; these events have proven to be a huge success as we can all attend straight from work and enjoy a relaxed setting before our sessions. At the September Stated Session, we recognized our 50-year members; what a true testament of love and devotion they have shown to our order. On September 10, the Membership Committee hosted a Mentorship Workshop led by PQ Tina Dobbs, which was heavily attended, gave great insight into communication, understanding and leadership to better assist each of us in being better mentors to incoming members. Thank you, PQ Tina, for leading this; I personally appreciated the insightful information and know others did as well.
In typical October fashion it was a very busy month for the ladies of Isis Temple No. 41. The West Side Nut Club Fall Festival kept both units busy. For the most part, the weather was truly fall-like and brought out great crowds. I enjoyed getting to spend time in the booths, getting to know each of the ladies a bit better and watching them come alive in their fundraising elements. These endeavors are a team effort. Thank you to everyone who was involved in making the week the success that it was!!! Our monthly Stated Session fell the Monday after the festival. As a token of appreciation for the hard work, Princess Banker Wendy Morris provided self-care gift bags containing fun pampering items to each of the ladies that attended that evening. Thank you Wendy; your kindness filled our hearts. The line officers had a bit of fun at the end of the session offering a brief “style show” to present exactly how our new dress code looks. It brought many laughs and smiles. Over the summer, Supreme Temple launched a Nile Kindness Unlimited Award program for ladies who go above and beyond to show kindness. During our October Session, I had the honor of recognizing PQ Linda Trible, the first recipient from Isis Temple, with this great honor. Congratulations PQ Linda, you make all of us proud. October 22 was a day that had been marked on my calendar for many months with anticipation of the return of the Isis Temple Card Party!!! Led by PQ Jean Rickard and PQ Jan Slifer, it was a glorious day filled with food, fun & fellowship, the opportunity to have an event in the middle of a weekday and meet so many members that otherwise do not get the chance to attend events was wonderful.
November was no different as it only proved to be successful and full of activities as well. Led by PQ Kathy Stewart, Isis Temple members are once again assisting the Nobles of Hadi Temple at the Circus Ticket Office. This is a HUGE undertaking that requires several hours of volunteering. It simply would not be possible without each of you—PQ Kathy and every volunteer: THANK YOU for your hours of love to this endeavor and making it the huge success it always is!!! Our November Stated Session held on the 3rd served as our Founders Day Service which allowed us to follow the Amplified Opening and Closing. This was the first time as Queen I had done this, and it was truly special and a great night to reflect on those that came before us to lay the way for this amazing organization. We also held a ceremonial during this session and welcomed five new ladies into our order. I know each of them is very eager and excited to be with us. We look forward to seeing you at upcoming events.  
As we look ahead to the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday season I want to wish each and every one of you only the happiest of holidays. May your homes be filled with love, laughter and family.
Our Nile Christmas Party will be held following the December Stated Session on the 2nd floor of Hadi. I look forward to celebrating with each of you there. Thank you in advance to the Patrol for hosting, I am certain it will be a wonderful event.

Past Queens, Fellow Officers and Ladies of the Household-

My how this year is already flying by. I want to thank each of you for making this such an enjoyable experience to this point. Navigating through the first two Stated Sessions was quite an experience, and I humbly appreciate the grace that you have extended to me. The 109th Supreme Session in Las Vegas was one I will never forget. The strengthened friendships, time with several of you and special ceremonies will forever hold a place in my heart. I would like to personally extend a thank you to the Isis Temple Patrol for being the designated unit; they performed beautifully and made me so proud to be escorted around in their distinctive dress. Kathy Walliker was installed as Supreme Queen. We are thrilled to have her at Isis Temple for her Official Visit on Saturday, August 23rd. There will be a banquet and ceremonial held at Hadi Temple.
I had the pleasure of attending the June meeting of the Princeton Nile Club, and let me tell you, these ladies know how to have a good time. We enjoyed a delicious meal, great friendship and bid often on some lovely, wrapped items. I proudly took home a new flamingo tote bag and travel jewelry organizer; I used both on the trip to Supreme Session and love them. These ladies do so much for our Temple, if you ever get the opportunity to join them, I highly recommend it.

I have greatly enjoyed working beside many of you through Ways and Means and Membership meetings to collaborate for the betterment of our organization. The Ways and Means Committee has been very busy. The Trivia Night event held on May 30 was a HUGE success that netted approximately $2,500!!! A gracious thank you to the committee, everyone who donated, participated and bid often at the dessert auction. Mark your calendar as we intend to repeat this event on Friday, January 23rd with a Soup Bar and Dessert Auction. The Ways and Means Committee also held an online garment sale fundraiser; if you missed out on this, we will be opening it back up closer to the holidays. Each of you should have received a "Higgy Bear" flyer in the mail, this is a very unique opportunity for us to share love with the patients at Lexington and St. Louis that are being treated for Scoliosis. A special thank you to PQ Kathy Stewart for spearheading this project. If you are able to join us for a little sweat and a lot of fun, we would love to have you help out in the concessions stand at the Vanderburgh County 4H Fair. I personally look forward to this week every year; it is a great way to meet members and get our name out in the community. 

The Membership Committee is FULL of fun new creative ways we can engage with each other. PQ Jan Slifer is leading this amazing group that is always looking for more to join them. If you are interested in having a custom magnetic name tag made, they are taking orders for $20 each. We feel this is a great way for members to better recognize and help remember each other's names. I was blessed with an invitation to speak at the new Nobles dinner which included their ladies and several showed interest in joining our order. A lovely Brunch was held on Saturday, June 28, with 18 ladies in attendance, including 2 prospective members; food, fun and fellowship was had by all. It is our intention to continue these types of events throughout the year at little to no cost to membership. If you have any ideas we would love to hear them. A display board summarizing who we are and what we do has been created with the intention of placing it at local Masonic and Shrine events to help spread awareness of our organization.

Well, fall is here and in full color. This all started with the visit of our Supreme Queen Jackie Holloway’s Official Visit. You ladies did an amazing job, and Jackie was highly impressed with what she experienced while visiting our Temple.
   At our Supreme Queen Official Visit and ceremonial, we welcomed two new Princesses in Isis Temple, Pr. Darlena Lancaster and Pr. Marsha Tweedy. We want to welcome you to Isis Temple, and we are so very excited for you to join this wonderful organization!
   My deepest appreciation to all you ladies that assisted with the setting up of the temple and for tearing down and cleaning up afterwards.  It is truly amazing how we all come together and get the job done.
Thank you to everyone who devoted their time helping with the 4-H Fair Concession fundraiser. This event brings us all together not only to raise money to support our Temple but to be together and share our
stories, our smiles, our laughter and our love for each other.
I had the pleasure of working in the Egyptian Band Box and the Patrol Brain Booth at this year’s Fall Festival. We could not have asked for better weather and both booths had a successful week.
   It was great to see so many smiling faces at our September Stated Session. We were happy to honor our Past Queens and 50-year members. At the November Stated Session, we honored Founders Day followed by a little trivia competition between Team Royal, Team Tirzah and the winning team, Team Badoura.
   Remember, we will have another ceremonial scheduled for the evening of our February Stated Session. Who do you know that you’d like to propose for membership? If you have anyone you feel would like to join our beautiful organization, please get a proposal filled out and turned in by the December stated session so we can vote on them in
January.
   Monday, Dec. 2, we will have a Christmas party after our Stated Session, hosted by the Egyptian Band. Please bring a wrapped ornament for the ornament exchange and we will also be collecting gift cards such as Grub Hub to give to the hospitals.
The Princeton Nile Club Cookie Exchange will be held Tuesday, Dec. 10, at R’Z Restaurant in Ft. Branch. We will meet at 12:30 p.m. for lunch and to exchange our cookies. If you can attend, please bring 3 dozen cookies to trade.
   Casino Night will be on Saturday March 1, 2025 from 7:00 to 11:00 pm on the second floor of Hadi. There will be tickets available at our January stated session.

Fellow Officers and Ladies of the Household,

I hope you are all having a wonderful summer.  The 108th Supreme Session held in Boise, ID was attended by several of our members. Thank you to all the Past Queens, Line Officers, Delegates, Egyptian Band members, Patrol members and Ladies of the Household who attended. My special thanks go to my escorts and banner bearers from the Egyptian Band, our designated unit. I will cherish all the lovely gifts, laughs, and the Egyptian bands traveling “Queen Kara” song. Thank you from my heart for the memories that I will carry with me the rest of this year and years to come.

The week was very busy with new legislation, changes in protocol, new abbreviated stated session, election of Supreme Officers, fun, new friendships and reconnecting with friends from near and far. There was a total of 783 voting delegates present this year. Jackie Holloway was installed as Supreme Queen – arriving on a “Litter” followed by Clyde the camel. Also installed were Supreme Princess Royal Kathy Walliker from Portland, OR, Supreme Princess Tirzah Kathleen Kathy Rafter of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Supreme Princess Badoura Donna Huff Isbell of Nashville, TN.

I was incredibly honored to represent Isis Temple No. 41 in Boise. How wonderful it was to see our outstanding units perform. The Egyptian Band tooted their horn and beat their drum with perfection to their new routine. The Patrol preformed their new routine to “Boogie Shoes” and didn’t miss a step. Their glitter boots even made the Jumbotron. Both units also participated in honor guards and marched in the mass patrol formations during opening and closing sessions.

Daughters of the Nile temples collectively contributed nearly $2.75 million to the Shriners Hospitals for Children last year. Isis Temple gave Over $10,000 to the Daughters of the Nile Foundation last year, which once again earned us a spot in the “Foundation Club,” which recognizes temples who contributed more than $10,000 during the year. Let’s keep up the momentum for 2025!

Special congratulations to Past Supreme Queen Sue Layman on again being appointed Chair of the Supreme Temple Code of Conduct committee, Supreme Temple Compliance committee, Supreme Temple Finance Review Committee and Supreme Temple Strategic Planning Committee. Special congratulations for Linda Trible, PQ for appointment as Chair of the Supreme Temple Strategic Planning Subordinate Temple Assistant Committee. We are also honored to have six Supreme Appointees: Supreme Goodwill Ambassador to the Central Area – Jan Akers-DuBois, PQ; Supreme Temple American Flag Escort – Tina Dobbs, PQ; Supreme Temple Canadian Flag Escort – Karla Goff; PQ; and Supreme Temple Banner Escort – Cynthia Berg, PQ; Supreme Temple Brazilian Flag Escort – Casey Wonders, PQ: Supreme Temple Bolivian Flag Escort – Cheryl Stader, PQ.  There was a special Princess recognition this year that goes to Princess Terri Cheeseman as a Supreme Giving Heart.  Congratulations Ladies!

Supreme Session also included new change to protocol and the introduction of an abbreviated opening and closing at our stated session to shorten our session and make out members feel welcome and renew their excitement for Daughters of the Nile. I am thrilled to announce that Isis Temple will be a Beta Testing Temple for these new changes and will implement come of these changes at our September 3, 2024 stated session.  I encourage everyone that has not attended a meeting in awhile to join us this night.  Well will start the night with a potluck dinner at 5:30 pm at Hadi on the second floor with session being at 7:00 pm. Look forward to seeing you smiling faces.

The 4-H Fair Fundraiser is taking place July 22 - 27, 2024. Special thanks to PQ Karla Goff for taking on the duty of coordinating this event, the schedule and seeing that all shifts were filled. This is not an easy task so if you see Karla at the fair this week, please extend to her your appreciation for her hard work.  

Supreme Queen Jackie Holloway Supreme visit along with our Ceremonial of Installation will be on Monday September 30, 2024, at the Masonic Temple at 301 E Cherry St, Evansville, IN starting at 7:00 pm.  There will be a dinner banquet at 5:30 in the lower level, cost per ticket is $25.00.  Please RSVP by September 22nd to Pr. “It’s that Heart of Gold, and stardust soul that makes you beautiful”.

Fellow officers and Ladies of the Household,

I would like to share how excited I am to become your Queen, your servant.  The past four years certainly have flown by. Seems like only yesterday I was at the station of Princess Badoura with my heart pounding out of my chest and telling myself “You Can Do This”. The encouragement from each and every one of you has given me the confidence to succeed. I promise to do my very best in representing Isis Temple as queen. My journey to the throne has been so rewarding.  I have developed a true love of the ritualistic work.  That is not to say that I do it perfectly, only that I think it is beautiful and love hearing it.

Let me extend my deepest thank you to all of those who participated in the Installation of Officers on March 16, 2024, at the Masonic Temple.  It is a day I will always cherish.  Special thanks go out to the Installing Officers, Units, designated helpers and those who attended.  The support and love that I and the officers have received is truly remarkable. 
Our first Stated Session was held on Monday April 1, 2024, at 7:00pm at Hadi Temple where I had the honor of installing the Unit Officers. Ladies you all deserve an applause for your professionalism and outstanding ritualist work.

I am looking forward to the 108th Annual Supreme Session that will be held June 9 - 13, 2024 in Bosie, ID where Supreme Princess Royal Jackie Halloway will be installed at Supreme Queen. I am thrilled to have the Egyptian Band as my designated unit and I know we will have a great time.

Our Supreme Queen visitation will be held on September 30, 2024, 7:00pm at the Masonic Temple with a banquet proceeding. 

My theme for this year is: “It always seems impossible until it is done.”
My motto is: “Success is not final; failure is not fatal: It’s the courage to continue that counts.”
My Scripture for this year is: “You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he had promised.” Hebrews 10:36

Fellow Officers and Ladies of the Household,
 
It has been an honor to serve as your Queen this past year. It’s hard to believe that the year is almost over as it has just flown by. I believe we did spread our wings and soar this year. We at Isis Temple No. 41 have a lot to be thankful for. We accepted 13 new members into our order, and we saw great success with our fundraising events.
 
There was a great time at the Supreme Session. I have enjoyed being able to be with all the Dragonflies these past two years at Supreme Session and attending the business sessions. It truly was an informative experience. Getting to know this wonderful group of ladies has been an honor. Both the Egyptian Band and the Patrol had successful booths at the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival. The Vanderburgh County 4-H Fair was again a success. Thank you to those who helped work at the booth, especially those volunteering more than one day, and most importantly, PQ Karla Goff for chairing this event.
 
We were given the honor and opportunity to work with the Nobles at the ticket office for the 89th Hadi Shrine Circus and were presented a check for more than $7,300 for our efforts. Thank you to all ladies who volunteered your time for this event, especially to chairperson PQ Kathy Stewart. The time and dedication you devoted to this are appreciated more than words can say. We had a great Trivia Night enjoyed by all with the highest attendance to date. Thank you to the ladies who furnished food for the event and special thanks to PQ Krista Williams for chairing this event. We had a fun ice cream social chaired by Meredith Thompson for members to bring a guest to give them the knowledge of our mission as Daughters of the Nile.  
 
Thank you to PQ Marian Trapp for chairing the Charitable Giving committee. We were able to present a substantial financial gift to the Daughters of the Nile Foundation, which as you know benefits Shriners Children.
 
We welcomed our Supreme Queen Patricia “Patty” Larimore on August 18, bringing in nine new members at that ceremonial. I was honored to bring in my daughter Stephanie at this ceremonial.  Sadly, we grieved and memorialized 19 members this year, including PQ Carol Wellmeier.
 
I would like to give a hearty round of applause to our Past Supreme Queen, Past Queens, 2023 Officers, Ceremonial Assistants, pro-tems, committee chairs, and every Lady of the Household. Thank you to all who served and participated in our committees. We definitely did soar in 2023, and I look forward to being a part of the wonderful things that Pr. Royal Kara May will accomplish as Queen. 
  
I offer my deepest gratitude for the work all Ladies of the Household do in serving Isis Temple No. 41 and our Supreme Temple. I look forward to the growth and fellowship that 2024 will bring!
