Daughters of the Nile

~ Who We Are ~

Daughters of the Nile is a benevolent international fraternal organization for women of good character, eighteen (18) years of age or older, who are related by birth or marriage to a Shriner, Master Mason and/or a Daughter of the Nile.  Founded in 1913 in Seattle, Washington, Daughters of the Nile is comprised of 147 Temples throughout the United States and Canada, with more than 35,000 members.  The members of
Daughters of the Nile are committed to supporting the important work of Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Shriners Hospitals, the official philanthropy of the Shrine of North America, is a network of 22 children’s specialty hospitals throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.  There are 18 orthopaedic Shriners Hospitals, three burn hospitals, and one Shriners Hospital that provides orthopaedic, burn and spinal cord
injury care.  All medical care and services provided by Shriners Hospitals are totally without charge to
the children and their families.  To date, Shriners Hospitals has provided specialized medical care
to more than 800,000 children across North America.

Shriners Hospitals have become renowned for their expertise in orthopaedic and burn care, and they maintain their position in the forefront of these specialized areas through an extensive research program.  They also focus on meeting the needs of the children of tomorrow through their affiliations with some of North America’s leading medical centers and their support of medical education and training, with many residents in orthopaedic and burn care receiving some of their training at a Shriners Hospital.

Members of Daughters of the Nile are proud of their long association with the Shrine of North America and their continuing support of the Shrine’s official philanthropy, Shriners Hospitals for Children.  Each year, through the Supreme Temple, Daughters of the Nile Foundation Convalescent Endowment Fund and Convalescent Relief Account, the Daughters of the Nile contributes over a million dollars
to support Shriners Hospitals.

Since 1924, Daughters of the Nile has contributed monetary gifts amounting to $44 million for the children treated at Shriners Hospitals. In addition, many Temples sew clothing and quilts, and provide toys, games, books and other items for the children.  The value of these donations totals in excess of $900,000.00 each year.  All of these contributions go a long way toward providing needed medical equipment to children and providing recreation and entertainment to patients at Shriners Hospitals during their hospital stay.  Additionally, Daughters of the Nile give generously of their time to the hospitals, providing more than
150,000 volunteer hours each year at the 22 Shriners Hospitals.

Daughters of the Nile is recognized by gold plaques on the recognition boards of all 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children, representing contributions of at least $1,000,000.00 to each.  The members of Daughters of the Nile are proud of this record of generosity and are dedicated to their philosophy of “working together for the children.”
By continuing their unwavering support of Shriners Hospitals, the dedicated members of Daughters of the Nile are doing their part to help children lead better lives.
